Bolton Ironman Challenge | Macmillan Cancer Support

I am overjoyed to tell you that I am an Ironman! I completed Ironman UK in Bolton on the 17th July 2017 in a time of 13 hours, 36 minutes and 24 seconds. It was an exciting, enjoyable and gruelling day. I started the swim at 6:20am and finally finished the run at 7:56pm.   I trained six days a week for six months to be ready and I am really proud of what I have achieved.  The times for each discipline were: swim: 1.54.29 bike 6.32.38 run 4.46.35. Overall Ranking 895th out of 2,040.

Special thanks to John Fletcher, Jack Hinds, the Marketing team and everyone else at Miller Metcalfe estate agents who helped to raise the profile of the challenge. Thank you to everyone who sponsored me, encouraged me and believed I could do it. Between us we have raised over £1,319 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Just Giving has emailed me to say that Miller Metcalfe Ironman’s Just Giving Page was one of the most successful of July, out of 47,728 fundraisers it was in the top 5%.

A big thank you goes to my wife Karen, my number one supporter, for months of driving me to open water swimming, encouraging me and most importantly providing me with enough food! I couldn’t have done it without her.  A big thank you also to my family, friends and colleagues who came to cheer me on.  It was a long day for them too. Thanks to the congregation at Christ Church, Halifax for their generous donations and Garth at Middlebrook, Halfords for getting my Trek Madone bike race ready and giving me lots of helpful advice.

Ironman UK is an amazing experience thanks to the volunteers, organisers and good people of Bolton who came out in droves to support the athletes. The Ironman was really tough, both mentally and physically, but the encouragement from crowds made such a difference particularly during the marathon.
