Tips for a more sustainable home

You don’t have to change up your entire life to live a more sustainable one. Just a few tweaks can help the environment, be better for your health and save you money!

Energy Efficient Appliances

Large home appliances generate a lot of electricity, not only can they be costly on the initial purchase but also end up costing a great deal to run. When shopping around for new appliances such as dishwashers, refrigerators, and ovens, look for those that are the most energy-efficient, these products have the Energy Star logo on them and will provide you with all the information needed.

Handmade Items

Handmade decoration items are a great way to dress your home, there are plenty of DIY ideas that are cheap and easy to make and sometimes even require you to use items lying around in your home. You can upcycle items you find for free and turn them into stunning original pieces unique to your home, try supporting local businesses that will also gain from local support. Although sometimes it can work out slightly more pricey upfront, it will save you money in the long run as homemade items tend to last longer than factory-made items.

Plants

Real plants are a great way to keep things green in your home, using a variety of different pots and plants to add a unique touch. There are many stores that make and sell affordable ones that are sustainable and last a long time. You could also ask your family and friends for some cuttings of their own plants so that you can grow your own affordably.

Re-Face Don’t Replace

When it comes to kitchen cabinets, tables, dressers, etc instead of replacing them altogether, repaint or reface them, it can change the entire dynamic of your home as a lot of the time they are still in great condition. Stores now sell natural paint that doesn’t emit harmful toxins and lasts a long time without chipping or fading.
